STEFANO ONGARO - Owner
Stefano Ongaro grew up surrounded by great food and wine in Venice, Italy. As a
young man, Stefano decided to pursue sports, and became a professional baseball player
in Verona, Italy, after retiring from pitching at age 30, moved to Los Angeles without knowing
anything about the city’s restaurant culture, he knocked on the door of the internationally
famous Valentino seeking a job. Renowned restaurateur Piero Selvaggio took him on as a
waiter, and soon after, recognizing Stefano’s natural talent for upholding refined dining
traditions while catering to customers, made him Captain and then Maître d’.
After a 14-year run with Selvaggio, Stefano looked for a new challenge and teamed
up with Celestino Drago to open Enoteca Drago in Beverly Hills in 2003. At a tasting event
there, he met Chef Sal Marino, and enjoyed his food so much that he decided to move on to
become Maître d’ and General Manager of Marino’s Il Grano restaurant.
All’ Angelo is a passionate venture for Stefano, as his greatest pleasure is making
sure that the food, wine, service and atmosphere gives diners the experience of a fine Italian
restaurant. From his distinguished, Wine Spectator, awarded wine list, to the special olive
oils he’s carefully selected, to the antique 1921 Berkel charcuterie slicer, Stefano has directed
almost every aspect of creating All’ Angelo. His attention to detail extends far beyond just
food and wine.
